Family Room Makeover Reveal with Sherwin-Williams

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Sherwin-Williams.
It’s here. It’s finally here! My husband Michael and I finished our family room makeover and I am thrilled to share the before and after photos with you.
Thanks to the fabulous Chip It! tool by Sherwin-Williams, we came up with a blue/yellow color scheme that brightens up our family room and is now a place where the whole family loves to hang out.
Let’s get started.
Remember these old couches and bare windows? Well, we didn’t find a sectional that we loved, so for now we have some pretty navy blue couch covers until we find exactly what we want (I can be so picky sometimes!).
We are happy with the new look!
I searched high and low for some curtains that I liked. When I saw these blue and white designed drapes I had to snag them up immediately.
I painted the walls a light gray {Sherwin-Williams Misty} using the color palette in this previous post.

Remember the old end tables?
After some sanding, priming, and Sherwin-Williams Fun Yellow paint, we had end tables that provided that pop of color I was looking for!

I grabbed some favorite fabric and whipped up a few coordinating throw pillows

…that gave the couch and loveseat that finishing touch!
Next up??
My favorite part of this makeover process! The fireplace.
I needed bookshelves in a bad way. Michael bought a couple of Ikea bookshelves and trimmed them with molding on the top and bottom. He also created a new mantel using 4 corbels and a wooden shelf.
I absolutely love how this space turned out and now I have a place to put many books!

I had so much fun accessorizing around the Chip It! palette we chose. Most of the things I already had on hand and I spiced up with some paint and printables!

Finally, we finished the blank, boring wall!

We put up some batten and board using Sherwin-Williams Extra White, threw up recent pictures of the kids, and voila…no more boring wall!
I cannot believe the transformation in this room. Friends and family members stop by and can’t believe how different the basement looks. It’s fun to receive compliments after all of the hard work that was put into this room.
I want to give a huge thanks to BlogHer and Sherwin-Williams for giving me this opportunity to achieve my goal this year to re-do the basement. My family thanks you, too!

Make sure to check out the Chip It! Video and add the “Chip It!” button to you bookmarks bar. You will not believe how simple it is to use!
Just drag the button below to your toolbar and start chipping away!

  27. LOVE your room! So cute! Great job! I have multiple areas that I would love to help, but I think i'd do my bedroom. Since my hubby and I married 6 years ago we have been students-we have 3 years left of Dental school and are in a little apartment. Our bedroom is the one room that always gets neglected. No one ever sees it and so I put all my time, money and energy into the other rooms. I'd love to make our room a beautiful sanctuary that I love to be in for more then just sleeping and changing my clothes! Thanks for the opportunity!

  38. I'd love to paint my craft room. While it's got a great red wall in it, remnant of the room being a boy's bedroom from the previous owners, I'd really like to give the room a different look, one that's brighter and makes the room look bigger. One wall is taken by two shelving units and a window. The one wall is a fire-engine red, the other walls off-white and the trim white. You can see a bit of it here: http://jensunchartedterritory.blogspot.com/2012/01/trying-to-get-organized-again.html. I'm thinking a bright, somewhat turquoisey blue though I like the though of limiting that color to one wall for a punch. The rest of the room... maybe white with a slight tint of ... not sure. :)

  122. Wow....You really transformed everything so beautifully. I have a whole house to transform...literally. We bought out house 4 years ago and had to gut the entire inside. We work when we can or when we have the money but still have not stayed one night in it. Sad I know. We are getting very close now. But still need some things in every room to be done. I cant show a picture but any one of the rooms Kitchen, bathroom, livingroom would be wonderful to finish. Thanks so much for the chance to be that much closer to getting in and living in my own home. :)

  131. I would chip the picture we have in our living room. It is the first thing guests see when you walk in the front door. It is muted in colors of red, black and soft yellow [it is pretty, promise] and we have red couches, but ... that's it. I need help! Eek.

I am very inspired by your makeover - pale yellows and blues are my favorite - and what our family room was supposed to be done it too. Errr, haven't gotten around to that yet. :)

Congratulations on your beautiful new room.

  148. I would love to redo my living room. I'm recently divorced and now live in a rental. My dream home, which I devoted many years to redecorating, was sold during the settlement. Now I'm surrounded by white walls, haven't unpacked my decorations yet, and several of my nicer pieces of furniture was damaged during the move. The company I hired to move me was unable to show up, as the owner and lead mover had a heart attack that very morning. So, I was blessed enough to have my church and friends help. But it was not an organized or smooth process! So I would use this opportunity to make my place feel like home and redo the furniture pieces to bring a much needed breath of fresh air into my life!! I have several Parisian images for inspiration. Thanks for the chance to win! smm2046@comcast.net
