Mystery Books for Crafters!

craft books

I LOVE to READ.

One crazy year, I read 114 books so that I could meet my goal of reading 100 books in one year!

I know that this is a crafty blog, but there are some great crafty cozy mystery books, that I know you would love to read!

What is a “crafty cozy mystery?”

My Definition:  A crafty cozy murder mystery where there is no graphic description of the murder, instead the book focuses on the main character trying to solve the mystery (this definition is for any cozy mystery.) Add in the fun details about crafts, and you will be hooked on your book!

All of these books are in a series, I listed book one, unless otherwise noted.

Knitting Mysteries

I am not a knitter, but I LOVE the description of the wool in the books!!!  I wish I could visit the shops described in the books and touch all the wool!

Knit One, Kill Two by Maggie Sefton

Died in the Wool by Mary Kruger

Embroidery

These books make me want to pull out unfinished projects, and sew as I am reading!

The Quick and the Thread by Amanda Lee

Dire Threads by Janet Bolin

Sewing / Quilting

This book is a fun read for quilters!

Pinned for Murder by Elizabeth Lynn Casey  (Sew Deadly is the 1st book)

DIY Home Repairs

You will think that your last DIY project was easy compared to solving a murder and fixing up a house!

Fatal Fixer-Upper  Do-It-Yourself Mystery by Jenna Bennett

If Walls could Talk Haunted Home Mystery by Juliet Blackwell

Antique Shopping

How does this fit? I feel like shopping and finding cool projects are half the work of crafting (and they are fun books!)

Skirting the Grave by Annette Blair (not the 1st book)

Shadows at the Fair by Lea Wait Antique Print Mystery

Blacksmith

You will love this series (it is my favorite, and so funny.) In the 1st book, the hero Meg is a bridesmaid in three weddings, and has a murder to solve. You will not see much of her blacksmith business in this book. This book also has an Agatha Award (which means it is a great mystery!!!!)

Murder with Peacocks by Donna Andrews

Craft Books 1

I know that I am just scratching the surface of great books that fit in the genre of crafty cozy mysteries! If you have a “crafty cozy mystery” recommendation, I would love to hear it!

  1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who reads these! :) Also good are the crochet series by Betty Hechtman - it starts with Hooked on Murder; Monica Ferris' series that starts with Crewel World-about a needlework shop in Minnesota and Button Holed by Kylie Logan- a new series about a button shop in Chicago.

  4. Assault with a Deadly Glue Gun (An Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery) by Lois Winston is just hilarious. It says that it is a series but I have only read this one book. I also read this one: Lye in Wait (A Home Crafting Mystery) By: Cricket McRae. I think they were both free digital downloads and I'm so glad I downloaded both of them.

  8. I love the series by Sarah Graves called Home Repair is Homicide. The main character is fixing up an 1853 Federalist house while solving mysteries. I also like the Monica Ferris series. There is another series by Earlene Fowler, the Benni Harper mysteries, where every book is named after a quilt square. Thanks for posting the list. I am always looking for new cozy mysteries.

  10. What a fun post! I read about the same amount of books you do however I am trying to curb my reading appetite and sew more! :) While not a mystery The Key on the Quilt by Stephanie Grace Whitson was really good for your quilting category. Blessings!

  11. I agree with Janis. Sarah Graves Home Repair mysteries are amazing. I have read almost all of them. Its pretty neat too that she knows my hubbies grandpa because he lives down the street from her in Eastport Maine (where the novel stories are based).
