My Craft Journal {instagram style}

I think Instagram is my new journal.

I love being able to look back on the family trips, funny obsessions, craft projects, etc.

Today I thought it would be fun to share what I’ve been up to lately and give you a peek into my crazy instagram life!

Here we go…

One of my favorite DIY projects-raingutter bookshelves in the playroom! I used this tutorial.

Freaky how right fortune cookies can be sometimes…

my mind never shuts down!

My daughters room makeover in progress. She loves her white/pink polka dot wall.

Look what I found thrift store shopping! The frames were $3.00 for all of them, and everything else was 50 cents each!

I love fall because I can get out my beautiful table cloth my mother quilted for me! She is amazing.

Working on some wooden fall art for my church craft day!

The nicest neighbor ever surprised me with this beautiful gift basket with treats and a Hobby Lobby gift card for giving her mailbox a makeover! So sweet.

I was craving chocolate so bad one night and so I opened a can of refrigerated croissants and filled them with Ghirardelli chocolate chips before baking them. Delicious!

2012-08-30_1346369333  Went to TJ Maxx, saw this little owl and freaked out about him a little bit. Put him down and some lady picked him up and put it in her cart. I was so relieved when she put it back a half an hour later {yes, I basically stalked her}! He’s the newest addition to my fall mantel.

2012-09-11_1347331722  Scored this baker’s twine at the Target dollar spot! That’s right. 10 yards for a buck!

I can’t remember if I mentioned this to you or not. My husband and I are redoing our kitchen and we painted our cabinets a beautiful white. Well, we put on an oil based polyurathane on top and they turned an icky yellow color the next day! Huge Fail! We have to redo them all over and I was almost in tears!

So this isn’t a crafty photo, but I’m still freaking out about finding a gray hair! Yes, I’m getting up there {I’m 35}. I vowed to never be one of those ladies who was afraid to reveal her age, but I didn’t think it would be so strange finding my first gray hair or a few new wrinkles!  I just need to embrace it!

One of my very favorite things to do is read a book right before the movie comes out. I just barely finished reading The Hobbit and I can’t wait to see the movie!! Makes me want to finally read The Lord of the Rings, too. Oh, you know what else I absolutely can’t wait to see? Les Miserables!!

  1. Oh your poor cabinets! :( Hope the remake goes better and you share what works for you. :) I actually liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy books better than The Hobbit. I'm also super excited about Les Mis!

    1. Thanks Emily! After much stress and dreading to redo them all over again, we've decided to hire our cabinets out. I'll definitely share before and after pics!

  2. Same thing happened with our cabinets. I spent a week on them MYSELF. Priming, Painting, Glazing. Asked my husband if the poly would yellow them. He said no. HE LIED!! But by that point, I was too tired to redo them all. Everyone else who sees them LOVES them. They think they look more aged. Its been over two years and they are still that way!!

    1. Kathy they probably look great! This picture above doesn't do it "the icky yellow color" justice. :)

  3. I love that you followed that lady at TJ MAx for an hour to get the owl. Ha! Victory! Serious bummer about the cabinets. Painting mine white has been on my list for four years (since me moved here) but I'm too scared to tackle it myself! Can't wait to see yours when they're all done. Didn't realize you were on instagram. Duh! Heading over to follow you there now.

    1. I was surprised that the moment she took that owl I turned into a creepy stalker! LOL I had to have him!

  4. I've learned to never put things back on the shelf that catch my eye. I'll walk around and think about it precisely because someone else could grab it.

    Chocolate croissants. Yum!

    1. I've learned that now, too! Also, if you think something is adorable don't shout it from the roof tops UNTIL it is in your cart. LOL

  5. Please share what you use when you re-do your cabinets, I've been thinking about doing the same thing!

  6. Ok-so if you don't want those crates, or you don't really need them..I will totally buy them from you and take them off of your hands. I have been searching for some. I only say and ask this because you are my friend and I am pretty sure that you understand my craziness and take it as love. :)

  7. I'm bringing two boxes of tissues for Les Mis. I can't even get through the trailer without the waterworks.

Good luck on the cabinet re-re-makeover. I'm renting and would LOVE white cabinets, but have to deal with ugly 80's maple and yuck.

    1. I get the goosebumps whenever I see the trailer. I'm a huge Les Mis fan! Read the book, saw the musical many times, and can't wait to see this version on the big screen.

  11. That table cloth is gorgeous! And I'm 31, soon to be 32, and I have had gray for a loooong time. I even have a full on 2 inch wide streak in the underlayers of my hair, you can't tell when it's down except for the few strays here and there. I have no desire to try to keep up with coloring it so I'm just gonna own it (or try anyways).

  12. I feel the same way about instagram! Have you heard of printstagram? You can have your instagram photos printed out in various sizes, and even a book of stickers of your instagrams, for cheap. I LOVE that little owl, I use owls in my Autumn decorating. Have a lovely day! :)

  13. Please tell me you are going to post more about the polk a dot wall?! Did you use Wall Pops? Looks so adorable.

You're not going to try to read Les Mis before the movie comes out, are you?! (Please don't tell me you've already read it! You're already Super Woman!) I tried once for a book club i was in, finally switched to the abridged edition, and still couldn't make it all the way through. It's one of those serialized books--LOTS of padding. :-/ Thanks for sharing all your fabulous projects. I love them all! XXOO

  15. When you seal cabinets that are painted white (or any light color) you'll want to use a water-based sealant, or a polycrylic sealer. The polyurethane is meant to go over stained wood. Could you just sand the top layer/coating off and re-seal them with a polycrylic?
