  27. My mom was a single parent most of my life. Her oldest had two strokes at the age of 4 and died five days after his 11th birthday. Even though many people suggested she put him in a home, she refused, because she didn't want my nor my younger brother to think that she'd just get rid of us if we got sick. She worked hard and did most of it on her own, with her own family living across an ocean.

It seems as if I wouldn't be able to win, as my mom has been gone for 22 years. However, I feel as if I had the best mom because she loved us unconditionally. She was the most selfless person I've ever known. When I was young and started working, I always had a hard time with mornings. She would take my rollers out while I put my makeup on (this was in the late 60's). While I did my hair, she would go out and warm up my car and clean the snow off. She would make whatever any of us wanted for dinner, sometimes making 3 different things. She would come from a few rooms away to change channels for my sister. While we never expected her to wait on us so much, she truly enjoyed doing so and we always appreciated her. She instilled in me a love of crafting, as she could sew, knit, crochet, embroider, needlepoint extremely well, but she was modest as she called herself "a Jack of all trades; master of none", which was far from the truth. I have a lovely Christening set she made - she crocheted a blanket and hat, knitted the dress and sewed a slip so it would be soft on the baby's skin. I have succeeded in passing that love of crafting to my daughter, and now my 7 year old granddaughter is showing a lot of promise as well. I still wish I could pick up the phone and say "I love you, mom. Thanks for spoiling your 3 daughters while teaching us crafting, compassion, courtesy and giving us a good moral base.

My Mom was a godly Mom teaching Sunday School for 50 years. She passed away last August at 84 and let her footprint on all 4 of us girls. She wrote poetry as a young woman and painted on sandpaper. That started our creativity and have since pushed our limits as what we do. With Mom and older sister no longer with us I am the Mom figure for my two younger sisters. I would love to own this new machine. I own Cricut Expression and will give the new one to my sisters.

  55. My mom had to step in to be the "bread winner" when I was about 10, after my dad got into a very bad car accident and was out of work for a while. She really dedicated herself to providing for us and ended up becoming one if the most successful women in her field. She taught me and my sister that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get what you want. But no matter how busy she was, she always made time for my sister and I when we needed her, or even just wanted her.

All the while, making sure to attend our school events, community events, and spend time with extended family. Even though we didn't have much money, she was very creative in the way she found fun things for us to do...painted macaroni necklaces, scavenger hunts, etc. She put herself last so many times - and now found a wonderful husband that treats her the way she should be treated.

my mom has been my mom and dad since i was 5 years old. when going through chemo, she was right there beside me for every session keeping me positive with her positivity and love. she is ''the wind beneath my wings''. when fighting for my disability with no income, she made sure i had a roof over my head and that i had my long list of medications every month. she did this all on her social security income. she worked harder than any woman i have known to raise 5 of us on her own. we may not have had everything we wanted but we always had what we needed. often she worked 2 jobs...during the day she worked in a shoe factory and at night she tended bar. she did all this with about 4 hours sleep just to make sure we all stayed together. it was rough on her but she did it all without once complaining. i do a lot of crafting and make her a mother's and father's day card every year and she loves the craft gifts she receives. we both would love and enjoy this give away. but whether we are selected or not...she is my greatest gift.

  140. My mom was the most amazing woman I have ever known. She passed away 7 years ago from breast cancer - she was a fighter, fought it for 5 years until she couldn't fight anymore. During her life she was the best mom a kid could ask for. She was also a great friend/daughter/sister to all those that knew and loved her. She always had a smile for you and a kind word to make even the darkest day brighter. Oh how I miss her.

My mom has always been crafty/DIY for as long as I can remember. With 6 kids she had to be creative & frugal. I'm lucky enough to get her crafty gene! Though she can out craft me on some things, lol!

Her craftiness got me into crafts and now it's my favorite hobby! She is BY FAR the most creative person I know, and I'd say that, contest or no contest. Love you Momma! :)

  191. My mom raised my 5 sisters and I to love the Lord, love our families, and to have fun with them! Our house was always the place everyone wanted to be. She never made us feel like a burden or that we were keeping her from doing anything. She loved/loves us unconditionally and selflessly. She is amazing!!

  192. My Mother did a great job in raising us for the early part of our lives. After a while though, because of an abusive husband (my father), she felt she had to flee from him and leave us kids with my dad. Almost 15 years later she came back into our lives and because God has forgiven me of all of my sins, I have forgiven her. I love that she came back into my and my brother's lives. I love her so much and love that she doesn't dwell in the past. She has a nonchalant attitude toward life by saying, "Yes, that happened and now we make the best out of it. Let's get some cake." Even though those years are gone when she wasn't around, I cherish every moment, every phone call, every gift from my mama. (Yes, I'm a grown woman) I am no perfect daughter either and yet, she still loves me. Even if we don't win this, I just want the WORLD to know that God can mend relationships, heal the broken hearted, and we don't have to dwell in the past. I LOVE YOU MOM!

  195. My mom is great for so many reasons, it's hard to fit it all here. There's a HUGE back story, but I think here is not the place to tell it. :) Let's just say, she had it rough and I had it rough but we were able to come together and have a wonderful mother-daughter relationship despite all odds and 3000 mile separating us most of my life. She has a wonderful family where she is and was mother to 5 other children. She's close to them all and she did a wonderful job raising well-balanced, kind human beings. She deserves the best!

How about being raised by a single dad - back in the 1960s when it wasn't as popular! That man could fix or create anything - that's where my love of crafting/creating was inspired. I'm interested in learning more about these machines...
