This was one of my favorite projects for our Kids Olympic Party! We needed a fun backdrop for our dessert table so I suggested we make giant Olympic rings out of hula hoops. My son, Ethan, was all over that idea and couldn’t wait to help. We choose bright colors because the party {and the Olympic logo} are centered around bright summery colors. Trust me, my son let me know that these are NOT true Olympic rings because the colors don’t work. Well, for the party they most certainly work!
Anyway, I let my boy have full reign of this project. I asked how we should paint the hoops and he came up with the following tutorial.
Supply List:
5 Hula Hoops (purchased at the dollar store)
5 Spray Paint Colors
8 zip ties
a wooden dowel and 2 garbage cans
Instructions:
You will notice, that we did 2 of the hula hoops “my way”. My way: on a cardboard box, prime one side, let dry, prime the other, repeat with the spray paint. Ethan’s way is way more cool!
Once the paint has dried, zip tie the hoops together where the arrows are in the picture below.
…and you’re done!
We also used them for one of the Olympic games…see tutorial. 🙂
