I have the COOLEST Valentine’s gift idea to share with you today!!
This one is for your spouse. I love fortune cookies, and with Valentine’s Day only a few days away, I was contemplating what to get for my husband. So I came up with this! I’ll still buy him something else to go with this idea I’m about to share, but I think this idea is fun, easy, original, and definitely unexpected!! 😉 And a guy would definitely love it!
Are you ready?
Fortune cookies with your own PG/PG-13 rated fortunes put inside, and then magically sealed back up, and closed back up in the package!
Okay, not magically, but I’ll show you how to open up a pre-made fortune cookie, take out the old fortune, add your own steamy fortune to it, and close it up so it looks exactly like it did before…
Your unsuspecting spouse will wonder why in the world you gave him fortune cookies for Valentine’s Day, until he opens a cookie and reads the fortune. And then you’ll score some major points!
And I included a free printable if you don’t want to come up with your own! This present really couldn’t be easier. It only takes a few minutes, but is so fun!
So here we go!
- Fortune Cookies (I bought a box of 12 at the Dollar Store)
- Free Printable
- Steamer Basket (used to steam vegetables)
- Flat Iron (optional)

What if you don’t have a steamer? Any other ways to get the cookie to open?
Laura @ Make Life Lovely says
Good question Stephanie! You could try making a double boiler by boiling water in a bigger pan, putting a smaller pan inside with a lid, and seeing if that works. The concept is the same, but I have not tried it this way. Or it may just be easier to borrow a steamer basket from a neighbor or friend. Good luck!!

I did this some years past, and didn’t use a steamer. A straight surgical clamp, i.e., surgical roach clip, will work just fine, or a small scissor. There is usually enough of an opening to remove and replace the fortunes without any steaming.
Good Luck, some of my own fortunes were a bit more suggestive, just make sure you know who’s opening them.

Thanks Rachel!!

This is great! I’ve also heard you can do them one at a time in the microwave, but I haven’t tried it yet. I recently posted a Creative Dates for a Year book and one of the dates includes customized fortune cookies. I am going to link to this tutorial, if you don’t mind.
Thanks so much!

This worked perfect, using it as a baby gender reveal. Thank you!

If your cookie breaks you can always glue it back together with a little water on your finger and smooth it over the crack. I set mine in the window and let it dry. You can’t even see the crack.
