My sweet cousin got married recently and my Aunt Penny DIY’ed this beautiful wedding backdrop for her daughter. This backdrop can be decorated to fit any wedding theme from shabby chic to western to bright and eclectic. It all depends on how you decorate the doors.SUPPLIES:
- 2 dark stained doors
- 2×4 piece of wood (stained to match the doors)
- Valspar in Paramount White
- Valspar Weathered Crackle Glaze
- satin finish polyurethane
- petroleum jelly (vaseline)
- sheer curtains and rod with hardware
- paint brush and rags or cheesecloth
- 120 grit sanding block
- (4) 1″x 8″ x 12″ wood slats
- (2) 3″ wood dowels
DIRECTIONS:
Step #1: Lightly apply petroleum jelly to where you don’t want paint to stick. We applied it to the seams and corners of the decorative rectangles on the door (what are those even called). On the 2×4, we applied the petroleum jelly to the edges.
Step #2: Roll or brush the PARAMOUNT WHITE paint on the door. Once it has dried, lightly run the sanding block over it to create a smooth finish. Wipe the dust off with one of the rags or cheesecloth.
Step #3: Apply the WEATHERED CRACKLE GLAZE with brush or rag. Because we only wanted some spots crackly and not the entire door, we applied the weathered crackle glaze in spots. Do the same thing to the 2×4 piece.
Step #4: Apply 3 coats of polyurethane. We used a satin finish to avoid the super shiny look.
Assemble the wedding backdrop.
Step #5: Attach a 1″x 8″x 12″ piece of wood to the bottom corners of the doors. We just used some screws to attach them.
Step #6: Secure the 2×4 piece to the top of the doors by drilling a hole on each side of the 2×4 and inserting a 2-inch dowel. Then drill the same size hole in the top of the doors and slip the 2×4 piece with dowel into the doors.
Step #7: Attach the hardware from the curtain rod package and hang the sheer curtain from the 2×4.Step #8: Decorate to your hearts content.
