It is that time of year again when I really start reflecting on the many BLESSINGS I have in my life.
It is so easy to fall into the mindset of “I wish…”, “I want…”, “If only… “, “When I have more…”. Being truly THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for where you are and what you have is so important and it is something we try very hard to teach our kids. We may not have the biggest house or the fanciest cars, but we do have our health, meals on our table, each other, a roof over our heads and vehicles that can take us where we need to go. The things that we take for granted are the things we need to be GRATEFUL for.
This THANKFUL season, I wanted to come up with something to hang in our house that expresses gratitude and that will remind us of our many BLESSINGS when we get in an “If only…” or “I wish…” mindset. With some left over wood we had in our garage, I asked my husband to frame out some different sized wood pieces so they looked like “slats”. I didn’t want a full piece of wood, but rather, many pieces of wood that were slightly spread apart (see below).
After he put it together, I painted it brown, cream, mustard yellow and orange ~ fun, fall colors!
When the paint dried, I used my Cricut to cut out the letters for the words THANKFUL, GRATEFUL and BLESSED. To put the letters on the board, I did a Modge Podge technique. I never buy Modge Podge because you can get the same result by using white glue and a little water. For this project, I mixed Aleene’s Tacky Glue with some water (I mixed it until it was a spreadable consistency that I could “paint” with). Then, I used a paint brush to brush the glue mixture on the wood where I wanted to put the letters. I stuck the letters in place and let them sit for a few minutes. Once they had a chance to “stick” for a few minutes, I brushed more of the glue mixture on top of the letters. I let this sit for a few more minutes and then I repeated this step five times (I wanted to make sure the letters would not move or come off). The glue dries clear.
I am so THANKFUL for the way this turned out!
And, I am happy to have this in our house to remind us to be GRATEFUL for our many BLESSINGS.

That turned out really cute! It’s so helpful to have handy husbands to help with the project, isn’t it? I love how simple this is.
