Last year, Kari was invited to participate in Michaels Crafts Dream Tree Challenge. She created an amazing Peppermint and Snow Christmas tree. Now, it’s my turn!
An amazing 7-ft pre-lit tree arrived this month and I am itching to make it my DREAM TREE! I went to Michael’s Craft and was blown away by all the Christmas décor they have. When I set out to the craft store, I had a specific theme in mind and knew what I wanted. It all looked great in my head. But when I saw all the possibilities as I walked up and down the aisles (numerous times) my plans changed. After a couple of visits to my local Michaels, I have finally narrowed my dream tree ideas down to three themes! And I could use your opinions.
Here we go:
#1: WINTER WONDERLAND
My favorite thing about Christmas time is the snow…newly fallen snow. I am totally attracted to this theme because of all the bright beautiful glittery white decorations. From the flocked roses to the glittery owls, I am smitten with the elegance of this theme.
#2: RED & GREEN BLING
Christmas seems to always be about red and green themes; it’s traditional and I am all about tradition. What I like about this theme is the BRIGHT red and BRIGHT green enhanced with the blingy glitter. That non-traditional blingy part is what keeps bringing me back to this theme. Those striped Poinsettias are to die for. Everything in this theme is kind of Dr. Suess-y with curved lines and I love that look!
#3: WOODLAND BERRIES & PINECONES
Okay, now this is the traditional red and green with holly and berries. There is a lot to be said for the comfortable cozy and woodsy theme. Just looking at these decorations made me feel like putting on a big sweater and furry socks and hugging a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows. This theme just has a warm feel about it. I would totally use ribbon like jute, burlap, and twine in a tree with these decorations…and that Santa ornament is to die for!
So there you have it! Those are the themes I am toying with. What do you think?
How would you decorate your dream tree? I would love to hear what themes you would consider.
Are you in the market for a beautiful tree this year? Definitely head to Michaels. I am super impressed with the tree I received. November 3rd – November 9th is a Special Tree Event at Michaels Stores. Don’t miss it!
Tough decision. My vote would be Winter Wonderland. Those fluffy little owls are to die for. 🙂
Those owls are adorable, right? I was smitten at first sight!
Hmm very tough but I agree with Julie. Winter Wonderland
Thanks.
I’m all about the Woodland Berries and Pinecones with as many natural-looking decorations as possible. The cinnamon scented pinecones are very pretty but the scent is terribly strong. I for one seem to be allergic to that strong scent when I enter craft stores, but maybe just a few would add a nice fragrance. Love the natural look! Have fun! I’m so jealous!!!
YES! I love the thought of adding some aroma to the tree!
I’ll always pick pinecones and berries- love the look.
It’s such a traditional Christmas look, right? Love it!
I like the Red and Green Bling. I think Christmas is all about whimsy and fantasy.
Great point. I love the magic of Christmas and my kids would love a bright fun tree.
Woodland Berries and Pinecones. I love warm, cozy and inviting and that theme speaks that to me. I’m sure whatever you pick will be beautiful!
I agree; it is inviting. It’s traditional and natural as well. Oh the choices I have to make!!
Woodland Berries & Pinecones. Love them!
Thank you! I love the comments! Keep them coming!
Love the fun of Red and Green Bling!
The Red and Green Bling would be awesome with the lights out and the tree lit up. It would sparkle like crazy, right? Ugh, this is a hard choice.
I love the Red and Green bling, then the winter wonderland…and last the pinecones…it just looks too old lady for my taste. 😛
hahaha! “too old lady”?! I love the honesty! 😀 The Winter Wonderland is becoming my favorite…especially after having read all these great comments.
My answer won’t help you at all. :o) If it was for ‘my’ house, I would choose the Woodland theme because that’s how I decorate I love the traditional look and with burlap being so popular right now, that would be so cute. But this is a challenge so I think you should do the one that would challenge you the most. While I think the winter one would be pretty, I think the Bling would be so cute when done. The fun and whimsy of the curly stems and spiral ornaments would be such a great tree. Can’t wait to see the finish!
I love that you pointed out that it is a “Challenge” so I should do something that challenges me. I REALLY like that! Decisions Decisions!!
Winter Wonderland !!!
Definitely the winter wonderland!! I am also a sucker for the newly fallen snow…how quiet and serene it always is! Love it.
My thoughts exactly. It’s so fancy, but still calm and quiet!
Woodland berries and pinecones is one of my favorite themes. One of the trees I put up is done in this theme and I LOVE IT. The winter wonderland is beautiful and would make an amazing tree. But my vote is for the Red and Green. While traditional, the Seuss-iness and brightness adds a fun twist. I think it could make a great tree that hasn’t already been seen.
Man, those are all great points. I am all about adding a twist and doing something new and different, too. This is going to be a tough decision.
I love the Woodland Berries and Pinecones. But agree that since this is a challenge, you should go with the one you feel the least comfy with.
I bought a 10 ft tree at Michaels the first Christmas we moved into this house. Not realizing how big the bottom of the tree would be to support all that height. LOL The thing is a monster and a PIA to put up and take down every year but it looks sooo lovely when its all done. Out living room is open to the second floor so we have the room. We actually put the angel on the top from the second floor. It’s decorated in Texas Rustic Country. At least thats what I call it.
Oh I bet it is stunning! Please send us a pic when you get it up. I would love to see it! By the way, I am so using “PIA” from now on. 🙂
Winter Wonderland, with the owls that would be a current fun design to do. I believe it would be a lot different than the tree you did last year.
The tree Kari did last year is so pretty and fits her style perfectly. I am definitely looking for something that fits my style and challenges my design experience at the same time
I get to do the challenge too!! – – and I’m going red and green bling – great minds think alike 🙂 I just love traditional colors with the sparkle flair
YAY! I saw that you are participating. You will do an amazing job, Mandy! I can’t wait to see the finished trees!
My choice would definitely be red and green bling. This whimsical, seussical (you like that right?) aspect of it just grabs my attention and appeals to my senses. My least favorite would be the winter wonderland- it is just way too bland for my taste, but that’s just me. I do like the natural look of the woodland berries and pinecones. Hope this helped!
Thanks for you comment. I definitely love the whole whimsical look and think it is very Christmasy.
Winter Wonderland seems the most magical w/ ethereal whites, subtle shine of silver, soft feathery birds hidden among the branches so that discovering one is a surprise…sophisticated yet whimsical.
Okay, that was so poetic! I might do that just because of the way you described it…perfectly! 🙂
Woodland!!!! Totally you.
That is very much my style, right? Maybe I shouldn’t go with my style and totally stretch myself.
Red and Green all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the enthusiastic exclamation points. I just might choose the Red and Green Bling. 😉
Winter Wonderland! I love elegant sparkly trees.
Elegance is totally the word to describe the Winter Wonderland tree I have brewing in my head.
winter wonderland!!!1
I love the Winter Wonderland I bought my Tree from Michaels last year and did it all in silver it was beautiful so there you go
