Modern Mother’s Day Handprint Art (Grandma version, too)

Mother's Day Handprint Art Gift Tutorial

Looking for a meaningful Mother’s Day gift that feels timeless? This modern handprint art transforms a traditional kids’ keepsake into a beautiful piece of neutral home decor. With soft blush and beige tones, clean typography, and a minimalist layout, this version is something mom will want to frame and display all year long.

Whether you’re creating this for Mother’s Day, a new mom gift, or a birthday surprise, this simple DIY is heartfelt, affordable, and completely customizable.

SUPPLIES:

  • acrylic craft paint
  • foam paint brush
  • cardstock
  • Baby wipes and/or paper towels
  • painter’s tape
  • 12×12 or 8×10 Wooden frame
  • Free Printable template (below)

Step 1: Prepare Your Surface

Lay down butcher paper or a drop cloth. Tape your printable image (use cardstock) to the table to prevent sliding.

Step 2: Paint Mom’s Hand First

Using a foam brush, apply an even coat of paint to mom’s hand (blush used, black used below). Press firmly in the center of the page. Let dry 5–10 minutes before layering children’s prints.

Tip: Don’t overload the paint — too much creates smudging.

Step 3: Add Child Handprint

Paint child’s hand. Slightly overlap onto mom’s hand for that connected look. Press gently and lift straight up. Allow to dry.

Step 4 (optional): Add Additional Child’s Handprint

Use a cream or lighter neutral for contrast. Slight overlap creates visual depth and a cohesive grouping. Let dry completely before framing.

Whether you’re making this for Mom, Grandma, or a brand new mama celebrating her first Mother’s Day, this keepsake is more than a craft – it’s a memory framed.

I hope this inspires you to gather your people, pull out the paint, and create something heartfelt and beautiful this season. And if you make one, I’d truly love to see it – tag @ucreateblog so we can celebrate your special masterpiece together!
