DIY Book Bricks

Hello fellow book lovers and crafters! I’m beyond excited to kick-off our August series on U Create, where books meet creativity. This month I’ll be sharing free printables, craft tutorials, book club ideas, and more! Today I’m thrilled to share a project that’s not only fun but also budget-friendly. We’re creating DIY Book Bricks.

DIY Book Bricks tutorial by U Create

I’m taking ordinary bricks (only 70 cents each at the home improvement store!) and transforming them into colorful, beautiful book decorations that are great for any garden or home decor. DIY brick books are great for book ends, a literary touch to your outdoor decor, and even make a great personalized gift.

The most difficult part for me? Picking my favorite book. My children picked their favorite’s as well.

Supplies Needed:

  • bricks
  • acrylic paint
  • paintbrushes (various sizes)
  • painter’s tape (optional to create straight page lines)
  • Sharpie
  • Clear sealer (especially if displaying outdoors)

Instructions:

  1. Clean your bricks by spraying off with water and scrubbing if needed.
  2. Paint the spine, front and back of the brick in your choice of paint color.
  3. Paint the pages. Let dry and draw thin lines with marker or paint to create pages.
  4. Once the spine is dry, it’s time to get creative! I looked for the image of my book on the internet and tried to copy it as closely as possible. I used a pencil to draw the letters/design before painting.
  5. Seal your work. If you plan to use your book bricks outdoors spray a couple of coats of sealant and make sure to let completely dry between coats.
  6. Display!

I’d love to see how your brick books turn out! Share your creations on social media tagging @ucreateblog and using hashtag #createwithUCreate and you might be featured. Let’s inspire each other with out love for books and crafting!

Stay tuned for more exciting book-themed projects and printables throughout the month. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a beginner, there’s something for everyone in this series.
