DIY Pizza Halloween Costume

DIY Pizza Halloween Costume

This is Silas.  He just turned four this weekend.  He gave a lot of thought to what he wanted to wear for his Halloween costume.  He finally decided that he would like to be a slice of pizza.

We worked together to make this:

This is a quick and easy costume to make.  And the best part is we worked on it together.  I sewed the crust and he glued on the toppings.

To make this costume you will need:

1. Felt or any stiff material for the crust (the fabric store I went to didn’t have a “dough” colored felt so I found a foam backed fabric in the drapery and upholstery section.  It worked great.)

2. Felt for the various toppings.  A few of the smaller sheets in each color was plenty for us.  We ended up using fleece for the cheese because we thought it looked most like mozzarella.

3. Fabric glue.

Measure your child across the shoulders and add about 10-12 inches to that measurement (maybe even more for older kids).  That will be enough for the top of the crust.  Measure from the neck down to where you want the point to hang.  Make your triangle and cut two pieces.

Cut a slight curve for the neck/head opening.  Be sure to make the opening large enough for a head to fit through.  I sewed along the edge of the curve to keep the neckline from stretching out.  Line up the front and back pieces and sew them together at the shoulders.

Cut several pieces of felt to look like your favorite pizza toppings.  Glue them on in any way you wish with the fabric glue.

Let it dry and you’re ready to go!
