Hello Creative Friends!
I’m happy to to be here to share some really simple ideas and tips on how to use items from your house for Holiday Decor! Sometimes decorating can be a bit of a stress and hassle…especially the less eventful holidays, like Valentine’s Day, so I’ve found a simple way to add a touch of the season, without a ton of stress!
First, my door. You might have seen some pictures around (on my posts, etc.) that have the same old door… I. LOVE. THIS. DOOR. It’s all white with a screen backdrop (where a window used to be) and a little shelf that I found at Target ! I originally planned for it to hold my jewelry, but I found I was using it more for photography set ups and realized that it’s absolutely perfect for a monthly decor area! This way, my entire house isn’t in holiday decor chaos, but I can still decorate and have a little feature in my home… it’s perfect for every holiday, birthday parties and more—because it’s quick and easy to decorate and to take down!
So, if you have a little spot in your home—maybe just one shelf, or a small table, that you could easily switch out each month- I’d suggest it! It’s so much fun and gives you that creative look without too much work or worry! I will usually try to make something fun (we NEED the crafty time, right?) and the rest I gather from bits and pieces in my crafting area OR from my kids cute school art—LOVE to use that, too!
For this look, I incorporated scrabble tiles and a domino into my decor—stuff I had sitting in my craft room! {I also am lucky enough to have a husband that can help me whip up a couple items here and there—like the wood arrow (found here if you need one)!} One of my favorite pieces for YEAR ROUND decorating! If you have a few basic pieces that can be used from month to month, that makes it even easier!
Another super easy decor idea is using pre-made scrapbook art! I have lots of Brag Cards or Project Life Cards that are already adorable, ready to go decor— add a simple stand, inexpensive frame or just prop it up on your display. It’s colorful, cute and easy peasy and adds a complete look to your decor!
For my ‘feature piece’ I created a simple project that has that personal touch to it… and, not only does this work for Valentine’s day, after it’s over, I plan to put it on our bedroom— one piece, two uses! LOVE that! I used a piece of cork board found at a local craft shop on discount! This piece was actually in the kitchen ware—it was like a hot pad style cork! You can see I used staples to attach everything—nothing complicated or messy! I did use adhesive to glue the wood phrases down and the top embellishments, but everything else just stapled right to the cork!
Most of the items on my crafty piece were just in my craft room! I like to save old blouses or tees that had cute fabric and repurpose them for rolled flowers like the one here! Also, paper doilies, party sacks and paper scraps are pretty inexpensive and fun to use! I also save unique packaging items {the big number 2 tag was from earrings I purchased at Anthropologie!} and ribbon from gifts, etc.! And what about basic school flashcards—so fun, so easy!!
There you have it! Some simple ways to add some creative flair for the simplest of holidays!
I love your ideas and crafty style. I use my mantle to change up decor…
Thanks, Lisa… I love decorating, but sometimes you need one little location in your home…the mantle also sounds ideal!!!
Another favorite of mine! Great idea, thank you so much!
