How to make baby leg warmers

Baby Leg Warmers tutorial at u-createcrafts.comI absolutely love making clothes for little girls.  That’s an obsession that comes from my mom, I think.  She was always making Kari and I darling dresses and skirts.  I guess that passion has rubbed off on me.  One of my favorite things to make for the baby girls around me if Baby Leg Warmers…I often make holiday ones because there are so many adorable holiday knee highs for women that catch my eye.  I can’t wait to buy them and see how they turn out as little leg warmers.

So today for our Throwback Tutorial I am making Baby Leg Warmers like before, but with a ruffled hem!Throwback Tutorials at u-createcrafts.com

I found some adorable socks last week at two different places and the quality evident.  The Valentine socks are from Joann Crafts and are super soft; the St Patrick’s Day ones are from Walmart and they are super stringy inside and the top edge is a bit scratchy.  Because they are holiday socks and won’t be worn forever, I am okay with the lower quality ones, but for future reference, I would totally buy them at Joann Crafts.

How to make Baby Legs

First of all, I totally realize this picture looks like something out of the Wizard of Oz, but aren’t they super cute socks!

Ladies Knee high to baby leg warmersStep #1:  Cut off the feet of the socks and toss them aside.

lettuce sewing edgeStep #2:  Set your sewing machine to a zigzag stitch.  While sewing around the edge of the socks (where you just cut off the feet) pull the fabric tight as it goes under your sewing foot.  This is what creates the lettuce hem edge.  Do the same thing to the other sock.Valentine Leg WarmersSuper cute, right?  I banged these ones out in 7 minutes…yes, I timed myself.  I should note that my kids were in school, so my distractions were minimal. St Patricks Day Baby LegsCheck out these fabulous St Patrick’s Day Leg Warmers…or as my daughter calls them “Arm Warmers.” by the way, they are super cute arm warmers. 😉St Patricks Day Leg Warmers

I would love to see the ones you create.  Send us a picture or post in to our Facebook page.

Could aso serge ruffle. Maybe even add elastic cord to “discarded” socks for another gift.

We used this Idea to cover the Pik line in the arm of our 7 month granddaughter while she was receiving chemo treatments. It was nice to see our pretty angel with all kinds of designs!
